Maruko’s class is abuzz with talk of Nostradamus’s prophecy: mankind will perish in July 1999. Since the whole human race is doomed anyway, Maruko decides there’s no point working hard on tomorrow’s math test. Instead, she resolves to spend her days playing happily until 1999.
