Starting tomorrow, the first graders will begin eating school lunch. Every year when that happens, the third graders help take care of them. Since first graders are still so little, it’s a big responsibility. After a great deal of hustle and bustle, Maruko manages to do her duty—and the next day, one of the first graders hands her an envelope.
明日から一年生も給食が始まる。毎年、一年生の給食が始まる時、まる子たち三年生が、一年生の世話をするのだ。相手は幼い一年生、責任重大だ。ドタバタしながらも何とか責任を果たしたまる子は、翌日、一人の一年生から封筒を受け取る。
