It’s time for the Boggy Creek Cinematic Universe to expand with Return to Boggy Creek! You wouldn’t think a rich film series could be built out of a swampy waterway in Arkansas and some kind of out-of-focus sasquatch guy, and you’d be right! It began in 1972 with The Legend of Boggy Creek, a “docudrama” (i.e., it’s all made up) about the creature. America immediately caught Boggy Fever (unrelated to the film, just an itchy marsh-based disease) — so naturally a few years later Return to Boggy Creek, this completely unauthorized and unofficial sequel, hit theaters. The original writer and director were so inspired by that, they released an “official” sequel, Boggy Creek II: And the Legend Continues (as seen on MST3K) a few years after that. The canon is a little confusing, kind of like the Highlander series, but with way more hicks.
