Actor Richard returns home from London to visit his dad, Ken, a year on from the passing of his mum, Jean. But on arriving, he realises his dad may need more help than he'd originally thought.
Richard decides the time has come to clear Ken’s house of all his junk – or as Ken calls it, ‘his memories’. As Ken’s suspicions over Richard's true motives grow, the arrival of Mr Oddjob, local handyman and Richard’s former school nemesis, complicates matters further.

Richard struggles with finding the right time to tell Ken his big news as the two of them spend the day touring Forres in search of the ideal spot to scatter Jean’s ashes.
After his dream Norway job doesn’t go quite to plan, Richard just wants to hide away from the world. Sadly for him, Ken has other ideas – mainly forcing him to join the protest group fighting to save the local allotments.
A depressed Richard searches for a real job and embarks on a fitness journey as his 40th birthday looms. Meanwhile, Ken prepares for his first first date in almost 60 years.
With Ken needing to resit his driving exam in order to win back his license, Richard offers to take him out on a mock test, not realising just how rusty his dad has become behind the wheel.
