In 1978, Susan Meiselas photographed the insurrection in Nicaragua that overthrew the dictator Anastasio Somoza and brought the Sandinistas to power. Her work won her the Robert Capa Award for courage in photo-journalism and resulted in her highly influential book of colour photographs, Nicaragua: June 1976 -July 19 9 79. This documentary interweaves the recollections and thoughts of Meiselas and those of the Nicaraguans who were caught in her pictures. It is a haunting, reflective study that questions both Meiselas's role as an American photographer observing the struggles of the Nicaraguan people and the impact of the struggle itself.
