Tama-chan’s neighborhood association is releasing carp into the river near the school, so Maruko joins in with Grandpa. Seeing the tiny carp for the first time, she sincerely hopes they’ll grow up big and strong. But her wish is not to be, and before long the fish are picked off by children coming home from school until nearly all of them have vanished from the river.
たまちゃんの町内会で、学校の近くの川に鯉を放流するというので、まる子はおじいちゃんと一緒に参加することにした。小さい鯉を初めて見たまる子は、無事大きくなってくれればと願う。しかしそんな願いも通じず、学校帰りの子供たちの餌食になり、川からほとんどの鯉が姿を消してしまった。
