ป็นเรื่องราวในอดีตกาลนานมาแล้ว ชายชราคนหนึ่งในตำบลเมืองพาราณสี มีลูกสาว 2 คน ชื่อ ขนิษฐา กับ ขนิษฐี ขนิษฐาผู้เป็นพี่นั้นสวยงามกว่าน้องสาวมาก เวลาเดินไปไหนด้วยกันสองคน ผู้ชายก็จะสนใจแต่ขนิษฐา ทำให้ขนิษฐีเกลียดและอิจฉาริษยาพี่สาวของตัวเองเป็นอย่างมาก รวมถึง เศรษฐีภาติกะ สมัยหนุ่ม ๆ ก็ตกหลุมรักเข้าอย่างจัง
