The Mirror Crack'd

1953. Toute la population de Saint Mary Mead est en émoi. Le château de Gossington, qui domine la ville, va servir de décor à un grand film historique. Les stars et l'équipe technique arrivent tout droit de Hollywood pour commencer le tournage. Une jeune femme aborde la célèbre actrice Marina Rudd, qu'elle avait jadis rencontrée, boit un verre en sa compagnie et meurt peu après. L'autopsie révèle alors que la malheureuse a été empoisonnée. L'inspecteur Delbert Craddock, de Scotland Yard, est dépêché sur les lieux. Il y retrouve sa tante, la célèbre miss Marple, dont il aime les confitures mais apprécie peu qu'elle résolve les énigmes policières plus facilement que lui. Bientôt, c'est au tour de la secrétaire de Marina de succomber à une mort violente...

In 1953 in the English village of St. Mary Mead, home of Miss Jane Marple, a big Hollywood production company arrives to film a costume drama about Mary, Queen of Scots and Elizabeth I of England with two famous movie stars, Marina Rudd and Lola Brewster. The two actresses are old rivals. Marina is making a much heralded comeback after a prolonged "illness" and retirement (due to what was really a nervous breakdown when her son was born with severe brain damage). She and her husband, Jason Rudd, who is directing the film, arrive with their entourage. When she learns that Lola will be in the film as well, she becomes enraged and vents her anger. Lola then arrives with her husband, Marty Fenn, who is producing the film.
